Zen and the Art of Welding
A three day, hands on workshop on
location at the instructor's studio, that will teach gas welding, brazing and cutting
as well as some exposure to electrical welding for steel. This class is not only
for artists—fishermen, builders and homeowners are all welcome. This is a practical
skills class that can be applied to anything and for everyone.
The class will emphasize basic safety training as well as the skills necessary
to weld and cut everything from a tin can to heavy plate steel. There will be
a time for students, if they wish, to bring a small project that they would like
to work on and assemble it in class. This class is a prerequisite for all other
future welded-metal sculpture classes (unless student has had previous instruction.)
If you have a small project or repair job, bring it along.
Mindfulness techniques will also be incorporated to help students focus and center
on their work and see the relationship, and interconnectedness of it to their everyday life.

 Found Object Welded Sculpture
A five day, hands on workshop on location at the instructor's studio,
where we will explore the world of found object art using various metals
collected by the students as well as some on hand. The facility has the
capability to handle metal parts up to two tons. A forklift will be available
if needed. So, load up the trunk of your car or the back of a pick up with
"junk" and come prepared to have a good time.
The emphasis of this class will be to see the intrinsic
beauty of the mundane in our environment and explore the possibilities of re-arranging our
world in such a way to see it all as art, and as a part of that process, we will merge the mundane and the sublime, creating found object sculpture.
Some previous welding experience is necessary. See "Zen and the Art of Welding" workshops, or call the instructor for prior private instruction.
